Choices
New
Choices is a substance abuse day treatment program. The New Choices
curriculum is based on psychological skills training specifically
focused on women with alcohol and drug abuse problems. The New
Choices program is based in Augusta, but open to consumers living
in all surrounding counties. New Choices includes 90-day, intensive
outpatient treatment followed by aftercare and ongoing monitoring
as consumers begin required work experiences and become part of
the recovery community. The New Choices outpatient substance abuse
treatment program meets all of the Georgia Ready For Work requirements
for intensive outpatient treatment.

Opportunities is a psychosocial rehabilitation day treatment program.
The New Opportunities curriculum is based on psychological skills
training specifically focused on women with mental health related
barriers to employment. The New Opportunities program is based
in Augusta, but is open to consumers living in all surrounding
counties. New Opportunities is designed as 90 to 120-day, intensive
outpatient treatment with transition to employment or training.
The New Opportunities program meets the Georgia Medicaid requirements
for psychosocial rehabilitation treatment.

Supplemental Case Management
Consumers
with less severe barriers to employment based on developmental
disabilities and mental health issues often require additional
support and guidance to benefit from the available resources.
Referred consumers are assigned to a GPS case manager who does
brief counseling and helps coordinate services. Individual and
group psychological skills training are also provided.
Foster
Care Transition
The
placement of children in foster care constitutes a crisis. Placed
children are first victims of abuse or neglect and are then further
stressed by they are moved and placed in unfamiliar surroundings.
A successful transition into foster care is extremely difficult
and most foster families need help and support to deal effectively
with the traumatized children now in their care. The GPS Foster
Care Transition program provides the necessary guidance and support
to facilitate placement. The intervention is brief, 60 to 90 days,
and is focused on coordinating resources and services and on consulting
with the foster parents on providing for the special needs of the
children in their care. The Foster Care Transition program meets
the Georgia Medicaid requirements for intensive family intervention.
Diversion
Project
The
GPS Diversion Project is operated under contract to the Columbia
County Juvenile Court. Children with minor charges are referred
for screening and referral in order to secure services and avoid
formal charges in the Juvenile Justice system.
